Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Fixed to board.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Meandering floral/thistle border.
Colours pinks, gold, white, black, blues and brown.
Family initials.
Inscription reads 'MISS HILL' (Probably her teacher).
Signed and dated
'AMELIA PATTULL HER WORK'
and
'1816 AMELIA PATTULL AGED 14'
. A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a large house,
dogs,
birds,
fruit baskets
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Good.
A few holes and some loss of ground to the bottom edge.
Slight patchy staining.
Some stitch losses to the divider lines,
motifs
and letters.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
