
Victorian, dated April 1857. 10.75ins by 7.25ins wide. 1857 Paper Sampler by Elizabeth McMillan. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with card backing.
The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on punched paper ground, in a variety of stitches.
No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours navy blue, cream, greens and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, numbers 1-9, and family names and initials.
Verse reads
'Sweet is the opening flower
Which just begins to bloom
Which every day and every hour
Fresh beauties will assume
But sweeter that young heart
Where faith and love and peace
Blossom and bloom in every Part
With sweet and varied grace'.
Signed and dated 'Elizabeth McMillan April 1857'.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
