George I, dated 1725. 20ins by 8.25ins wide.

1725 Antique Band Sampler by Sarah Crompton. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in fine wool and a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

No border, divider lines in various patterns.

Colours blues, cream, red, gold, pink, browns and greens.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-12.

Inscription reads

A scattering of diamond motifs.

Consists of a variety of elaborately worked floral and foliate bands.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A couple of tiny holes.

A few pale patchy stains, barely visible.

Some stitch losses to the divider lines, letters and motifs.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
