
George IV, dated 1827. 17ins by 13ins wide. 1827 Sampler by Elizabeth Tranters.
Framed in an old wood frame with glass.
Stitched to linen with board backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours browns, cream, greens and black. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.
Verse entitled 'Our Father' reads
'GREAT God and wilt thou condeescend.
To be my father and my friend.
I a poor child and thou so high.
The Lord of eath and air and sky.
Art thou my Father:- canst thou bear.
To hear my poor imperfect prayer.
Or stoop to listen to thy praise.
That such a little on can raise.
Art thou my Father:- let me be.
A most obedient child to thee.
And try in word and deed and thought.
To serve and please thee as I ought.'.

A scattering of motifs, including flowers tied with ribbon.
CONDITION: Generally good. No holes. No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
