Antique Sampler, 1835, stitched by Sarah Nodes

William IV, dated Novbr 19th 1835. 16.5ins by 12.5ins wide. 1835 Religious Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Nodes.

Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, dimpled, old glass.

Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with card and brown paper backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours gold, cream, navy blue, greens and browns.

Verse reads 'Lord,teach my youthful heart thy fear;

Thy grace to me be given:

make me thy faithful servant hear,

And bring me safe to heaven.'

Signed and dated 'Sarah Nodes Aged 11 Years Novbr 19th 1835'.

A good set of motifs, including butterflies, birds,

flowers,

potted flowering plants,

dogs and a tree.

CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.

No stitch losses. One loose thread.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
