
George II, dated 1731. 12ins by 10.75ins wide. Antique Sampler, 1731 sampler by Mary Boulton. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, dimpled, old glass.
Fixed to linen with wood and brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Embroidered border.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-23.
Inscription reads
'No Surplic White The Priest Could Wear
Banless The Bishop Must Appear
The King Without A Shirt Would Be
Did Not The Needle Help Pin Three'
and prayer reads
'OUR Father which art in Heaven Hallowed be thy Name Thy
kingdon come Thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven Give
us this day our daily bread And forgive us our Trespass as we
forgive them that trefpafs againft us And lead us not into
Tempation but deliver us from Evil Fot Thine is the kingdom the
power and the Glory for ever and ever Amen'.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of small holes.
A few patchy stains.
Some stitch losses to the signature and inscription.
Some colours very faded making them difficult to read.
No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
