Pair Staffordshire children with fox & hen spill vases

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 7.3ins high, 4.3ins wide, 2.6ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire spill vases with a pastoral theme which feature a boy with fox and cockerel/rooster.
The girl with fox and hen, stood on a shaped base.



Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment.





Flatback, decorated mainly to the front.




Maker's marks painted to the underside.


Condition

CONDITION: Male: Good.

Some rubbing to gilt.





RESTORATION. Filled chip to boy's nose and fox's right ear.





Stabilised and retouched hairline running from boy's left hand onto reverse.





Retouched paint losses to shoes and spill rim.





Female: Good.

Some rubbing to gilt.





KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage line to the interior of the spill and one also to fox's chest;





a couple of deep craze lines to the underside of base.



RESTORATION. Top section of spill reglued and join retouched.





Filled chip to ground and remodelled piece of shredded clay to area behind fox.



Retouched flake to fox's nose.



Retouched paint losses to black enamel.
