Staffordshire Pearlware Musicians Cornucopia spill vase

pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 8.9ins high, 7.2ins wide, 3.8ins depth. Staffordshire pearlware spill vase with a musical theme which features a lady and gentleman playing musical instruments.



In the foreground, a shell and two sheep, recumbent on a shaped hollow base.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.







Vent holes to the underside.

Condition

CONDITION: Good.

Chip to underside at reverse.



Flaking to the base rim.









Paint losses to lady's left elbow,



her instrument



and spill rim.







KILN EFFECTS: finger prints to the spill;





touch mark to his knee;



glaze pops to the yellow,



cream and brown enamel;





firing crack to the right hand sheep where it meets the ground.



RESTORATION: Remodelling to left hand sheep,



end of his horn and tip of her instrument.





Man and his stool reglued and join retouched.
