Staffordshire child & Roc bird over waterfall group
Victorian, circa 1860. 13ins high, 5.9ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Staffordshire figure with a theatrical and literary theme which features a child hanging over a waterfall, being carried by a Roc bird, perched on an oval base.
Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent holes to reverse and underside.
This piece represents or could have been inspired by the story, 'The Arabian Nights' first translated into English in 1840.

Condition
CONDITION: Good. No restoration. A couple of paint losses to the bird's wing.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the front;
shrinkage cracks to reverse, underside of base
and bird's tail and bird's left leg.
