Pair Staffordshire musicians with animals
Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 10.4ins high, 5.5ins wide, 2.6ins depth.
Pair of Staffordshire figures with a musical theme which feature a boy and girl both with musical instruments by a stream,
surrounded by goats and a spaniel, stood on an oblong base.
Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.
Maker's marks painted to the underside.
Book reference not found.
Condition
Male: Good. No restoration. A few paint losses to boy's hair and goat's horns.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the boy's face.
Female: Good. No restoration. A few chips shredded clay.
Abrasion to girl's nose.
Flake to goat's horns and girl's cloak.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the reverse;
flecks of stray coloured glaze to girl's hat and skirt.
