Pair Staffordshire lion/lioness & cubs spill vase

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 11.2ins high, 7.5ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire spill vases which feature a lion/lioness paying with their cubs, recumbent on a shaped base.



Dull gilt base line and embellishment.
Decorated mainly to the front.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good.

Small chip to piece of shredded clay.



Flake to lions paw and one to base front.



Some paint losses to two cubs ears





and lion mane at reverse.



Some rubbing to gilt.



Slight wear to sides of base and spill rim at reverse.







RESTORATION: filled chip to one cub's ear;



retouched paint loss to lion tail



and spill interior.




Left facing: Good.

Some small paint losses to green leaves,



flower petal



and snake.





RESTORATION: filled chip to one cub's ear,



spill rim and base edge at reverse;









retouched paint loss to lioness's tail.
