Staffordshire Pearlware Neptune figure

descriptipre-Victorian, circa 1820. 7.6ins high, 4.1ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Staffordshire pearlware figure with a mythological theme which features Neptune and a dolphin, stood on a rococo base.





Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Maker's marks painted to the underside.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. Hairline to the underside base edge at front.



Small chip to seaweed at reverse, and another to underside base edge.





Some small flakes to the base rim, seaweed, shells, Neptune's hat, eyebrow and dolphin's head.

























Bruise to one shell.



Very minor paint losses to the ground.





KILN EFFECTS: firing hole to dolphin's mouth;



kiln soot caught in the glaze.





RESTORATION: both arms reglued and joins retouched;





filled chips to Neptune's feet and clothing, dolphin's tail fins and underside base edge.
