Pair Staffordshire spaniels with pups on cobalt bases
Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 7.9ins high, 5.7ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a spaniel with pup, seated on a cobalt blue base.
Russet and white version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment.
Flatback, decorated only to the front.
Vent hole to the underside.

Condition
CONDITION: Right facing: Good.
Two small bruises to the reverse.
Gilt almost entirely rubbed away.
KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the reverse;
shrinkage crack to the front lower base edge;
shrinkage line just under spaniel's lower jaw;
thin glaze application to cobalt base.
RESTORATION: Retouched flakes to pup's nose
and spaniel's right hind leg.
Retouched paint losses to pup's nose and markings.
Left facing: Good.
Small flakes to lower base edge.
Gilt almost entirely rubbed away.
KILN EFFECTS: piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle;
kiln grit caught in the glaze to the reverse;
thin glaze application to cobalt base.
RESTORATION. Retouched paint losses to noses and markings.
