Large Pair Kent Staffordshire cow with milkmaid/milkman figures

Victorian, circa 1880. Tallest is 10.4ins high, 9.3ins wide, 5.3ins depth. Pair of Kent Staffordshire figures with a pastoral theme which feature a cow and milkmaid/milkman
by a stream, stood on a shaped base.



Russet and white version.





Bright gilt base line and embellishment.



Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.



Book reference not found.

Condition

CONDITION: Milkman: Generally good.

Some rubbing to gilt.





KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;





shrinkage line around the base;





touch mark to the base;



stray coloured glaze to the ground from his shoes,



and one to his cuff.



RESTORATION: Cow's left ear and horn remodelled.





Stabilised and retouched crack to ground, stream and underside.











Retouched flakes to his hat.





Retouched paint loss to cow's markings and his crop.







Shrinkage line to base has been retouched.



Milkmaid: Generally good.

Two small chips to underside.





Slight rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: Gilt base line has run in one place;



touch mark to the reverse;



firing pit to top of cow's tail.



RESTORATION: Filled chips to base edge





and cow's right horn and ear.





Shoes have been retouched.



Old retouching to ground.
