Staffordshire hen on nest turren
Victorian, circa 1860. 6.2ins high, 7.9ins wide, 5.7ins depth.
Staffordshire egg tureen and cover which features a hen sitting with her eggs, seated on a basketweave oval base.
White and gilt version. Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Condition
Hen: Fair. Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: over glazed shrinkage line to the hen's neck.
RESTORATION. Tail feathers reglued and join retouched.
Stabilised and retouched crack running in front of hen's chest.
Filled chip to ground underneath tail feathers.
Retouched paint losses to ground.
Nest: Good. No restoration. Shallow chip to rim.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the rim.
