1804 Sampler by Agnes Rob. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk and cotton on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours pink, cream, blue, yellow, navy blue, dark brown, magenta, copper and olive green.
Family initials and the name, 'Mrs BrowN'.
Inscription reads, 'O come and
let us worfhip him
let us bow down withal
and on our knees before the Lord
our maker let us fallf or hes our god
the people we of his own pafture
are and of his hand the
fheen today if ye
his voice will
heat psalm
XCV'.
Signed with initials and dated 'Agnes Rob my Work 1804'.
A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including potted flowering plants, birds, rabbits,
fruit baskets, fir trees, peacocks and diamonds.
CONDITION: Good. No holes, just pulling and losses to the edges.
Pale staining to the right corner.
Minor stitch losses to the inscription.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
