1817 Small Stoneleigh School Sampler by Letticia Mulliss

George III, dated 5 December 1817. 8.5ins by 5.25ins wide. Small 1817 Stoneleigh School Sampler by Letticia Mulliss. Framed in a modern maple frame with glass.

Loose mounted (or possibly glued around the extreme edges) over a card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Simple line border.

Colours browns, cream, pink, greens and blue.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12.

Inscription reads

'In Words of Truth

Give God the Praise

He guards your Youth

Spend well your Days'.

Signed and dated

'Letticia Mullifs Finished the 5 of December 1817 Aged 11 Stoneleigh School Warwickshire'.

Warwickshire is a county in England. Stoneleigh School closed in 1976, but the building still stands, now converted into apartments.

A scattering of motifs, including a fruit basket,

potted flowering plants

and crowns.

CONDITION: Good.

A few small holes.

A few pale stains to the extreme edges.

No stitch losses.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
