1835 Sampler by Emma Flatman. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral strawberry border.
Colours greens, white, pink, browns and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case Verse reads
'When thou my righteouf judge fhalt come
To fetch thy ranfomed people home
Shall I among them ftand
Shall fuch a worthleff worm af I
Who fometimef am afraid to die
Be found at thy right hand'.
Signed and dated 'Emma Flatman Anno Domina 1835'.
A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants,
a dog, fruit basket,
stags and birds.
CONDITION: Good. A number of small holes.
One pale patchy stain and a dark stain speck.
Very minor stitch loss to the motifs.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. Very slight colour run around the dark green threads.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
