1719 'Rotherhithe' Band Sampler by Elizabeth Day

George I, dated 1719. 18ins by 8.25ins wide.

1719 Band sampler by Elizabeth Day. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.

Fixed to board with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours yellow, cream, pink, grey and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12.

Verse reads,

IM and made hIm A SLaVe and sent h

ve'.

CONDITION: Good. No holes.

Three old tack rust stains to the extreme top and bottom edges.

One pale patchy stain to a divider line.

No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
