
James II, dated 1687. 22.5ins by 8.5ins wide. 1687 Band sampler by Mary Coleston.
Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
No border, divider lines in various patterns.
Colours greens, blues and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case
Inscription reads

CONDITION: Good.
A number of small holes and two repairs.
Three holes to the linen along the bottom edge, behind gilt slip, so not visible when displayed.
Slight patchy stains along the edges.
Minor stitch losses to letters of the alphabets,
verse
and signature.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
