The sampler is worked in wool and silk-like thread on linen and canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Colours pink, cream, peach, blues, light brown, white, black, red and greens. Signed and dated

& 'MARTHA.BARLOW 1848'.
A scattering of motifs, including angels, a dog, birds,
fruit baskets, fir trees, potted flowering plants and a lady holding a flower in each hand.
CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. A few stain specks to the extreme edges and some pale patchy stains.
Minor stitch losses to the motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frames showing some wear, but are structurally sound.
