
Victorian, dated 1864. 17ins high by 20ins wide. 1864 Ship Sampler by Hannah Meria nenrnham.
Framed in a wood frame with rippled, old glass. Fixed to card with card backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Simple embroidered border.
Colours red, cream, green, light brown, gold, white, pink, navy blue and black.
Verse reads
'The Lord knoweth the days of the upright and their
inheritant shall be for ever They shall not be ashamed in the evil
time and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied But the wicled
shall perish'.
Signed and dated 'Hannah Meria Nenrnham'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including two sailing ships, a girl walking her dog, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants,
stags, fruit baskets, deer, trees, crowns, a church and two houses all linked by a path and butterflies.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few pale patchy stains.
No stitch losses, just one loose thread.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
