1824 Alphabet Sampler by Margaret Jagger

The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple line border.

Colours red, pale blue, green and pink. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12.

Signed and dated 'Margaret.Jagger's Work 1824'.

A scattering of motifs, including birds, flowers,

fruit basket, diamond and crown.

CONDITION: Generally Good. Two holes.

Small old tack holes to the extreme edges.

Two patches of thinning to the canvas ground above the signature.

One dark stain and uniform age darkening of the backing canvas.

Some stitch losses to the border, divider lines, the date and letters/numbers.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.
