1824 House Sampler by Mary Leonard

George IV, dated 1824. 12ins by 16ins wide. 1824 Sampler by Mary Leonard.

Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass.

Stapled to wood with card backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours green, cream, black, browns and blue.

Signed and dated

'Mary.Leonard Aged 8 Yrs 1824'.

A good set of motifs, including a large house,

stars,

dogs,

birds,

potted flowering plants,

trees, laden with fruit,

rabbits,

stags,

fruit baskets,

fir trees,

crowns,

a lady and a gentleman

and butterflies.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A number of small holes.

A few pale patchy stains.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Unevenly stretched.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
