
Victorian, dated 1850. 15ins by 12ins wide.
1850 Sampler by Isabella Lickfold. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours green, cream, copper, pink, brown and red.
Verse reads
'Through all the changing scenes of life,
In trouble and in joy,
The praises of my God shall still
My heart and tongue employ'.
Signed and dated 'Isabella Lickfold, Aged 9 years 1850'.
A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden, birds, potted flowering plants,
trees, crowns, a building with a flag,
fleur de lis and butterflies.
CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.
A few pale stain specks.
Minor stitch losses to the motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
