Circa 1790 Darning Sampler

Circa 1790. 13.25ins by 13.25ins wide.

Circa 1790 Darning sampler. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Simple diamonds border.

Colours brown, blue, red, gold, white, black, cream and green.

Comprises of darning panels worked in various different styles and patterns.

A single motif to the centre of a potted flowering plant.

No signature or date.

CONDITION: Generally Good. Four small holes.

Two small tears to the linen ground to the extreme bottom edge.

Some repaired areas to the floral motif.

A few pale stain specks.

Very minor stitch loss to the motifs.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.

Colour run around some of the black and brown threads.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
