1832 'Sharon's Rose' Sampler by Eliza Nicholls

William IV, dated 1832. 20.5ins by 12.5ins wide.

1832 'Sharon's Rose' Sampler by Eliza Nicholls. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering floral border.

Colours green, cream, blue, red, copper, gold, pink, white and brown.

Verse reads

'When to the garden I repair,

And view each flower that grows,

There's none so beautiful and fair

As Sharon's lovely Rose.

If any by this time should ask,

Of whom I this compose?> To answer such will prove no task.

'Tis Christ that's Sharon's Rose.'.

Signed and dated 'Eliza Nicholls her work aged thirteen years 1832'.

A good set of motifs, including a potted Sharon's Rose,

birds, potted flowering plants,

trees, laden with fruit,

fir trees, fruit baskets and butterflies.

CONDITION: Generally good. A number of holes.

A number of patchy stains.

Minor stitch losses to the border and motifs.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
