1794 Sampler by Susanna Marsh. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours green, cream, yellow, pink, blue and brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10.
Verse reads
'Thou fhalt have no more Gods but me.
Before no Idol bow thy knee.
Take not the name of God in vain.
Nor dare the Sabbath Day profane.
Give both thy Parents Honor due.
Take heed that thou no murder do
Abftain from words and Deeds unclean
Nor steal tho' thou art poor and mean
Nor make a wilful lie nor love it.
What is thy Neighbour's dare not covet.'.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A few small tack holes to the extreme edges.
Slight patch of thinning to the backing canvas along the bottom edge.
One dark stain speck and three pale patchy stains.
Stitch losses to the divider lines,
motifs and letters/numbers.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
