Verse entitled
'A HYMn'
reads
'1
HAPPY, would it be for me,
In the rising bloom of youth,
To devote my life to thee,
O thou GOD of love and truth!
2
May I anxious be to know
More of thee and things above:
LORD upon a child bestow
Light and knowledge joy and love.
3
Suffer not the tempter's wiles
To divert my feet aside;
Save me from whate'er defiles -
Sin and folly lust and pride.
4
Let thy will in me be done:
Let thy sacred will be mine;
Fix my heart on thee alone,
To evince I am truly thine.'
Signed and dated
'Elizabeth Newton Aged 12 Years 1824'.
A few motifs including a house,
birds,
potted flowering plants,
crown,
squirrels
and flowers.
CONDITION: Generally good.
A few holes.
A few patchy stains.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
