1844 Alphabet sampler by Mary Catharine Holme

Victorian, dated 1844. 8.25ins by 9.25ins wide. 1844 Sampler by Mary Catharine Holme.

Framed in an old, possibly original, Hogarth frame with rippled, old glass. Fixed to board.

The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple line border.

Colours red, pale blue and brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-7.

Signed and dated 'Mary Catharine Holme. Aged 9 Years 1844'.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. One small pull to the canvas ground, to the top left corner.

No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
