
George IV, dated Dec. 19 1828. 15ins by 15ins wide. 1828 St Pauls Sampler by Mary Turvey. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Floral border.
Colours browns, cream, navy blue, gold, greens and black.
Inscription reads
'St Pauls Church Covent Garden London'
and
'All you my Friends who now expect to fee
A piece of Work thus perform'd by me'.
Signed and dated 'Mary Turvey Finished Dec. 19 Aged 14 1825'.
A few motifs including a depiction of St Pauls Church in Covent Garden, London (which still stands),
stars,
birds,
angels,
flowers, blossoming trees,
fir trees
and squirrels.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes, some with repairs.
A few stains.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Slight colour run around the green threads.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
