1847 Sampler by Mary Anne Hopcraft

Victorian, dated 1847. 16ins high by 12ins wide. 1847 Sampler by Mary Anne Hopcraft.

Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Tacked to board with card backing.

The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border.

Colours red, cream, copper, orange, greens and black. Alphabets A-Z in lower case.

Inscription reads

'God is love'.

Signed and dated 'Mary Ann. Hopcraft Oct. 20. 1847 Aged 6 Yrs'.

A few motifs including flowers,

birds perched on trees

and potted flowering plants.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few patchy stains.

Some stitch losses to the border.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
