Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours green, cream, light brown, copper, gold, green and blue. Family names/initials.
Signed and dated 'M. Cusin Aged 10 Years 1821 EIG'.
A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a castle, butterflies, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life, a snake coiled around its trunk, dogs, birds, potted flowering plants, rabbits, fruit baskets, squirrels, blossoming trees, hearts, two houses, peacocks, goats and ladies and a gentlemen.
CONDITION: Good. A number of small holes.
Minor stitch losses to the border and motifs.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
Very slight colour run around the green threads.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
