1819 'Learn to Excel' Sampler by Amaria Ann Moore

George III, dated 1819. 14ins by 12.75ins wide. 1819 Sampler by Amaria Ann Moore. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk and a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours browns, cream, red, white, black, blues and greens.

Verses read

'Learn To Excel in Doing Well'

and


'We trust in Heaven's Almighty Lord,

Nor doubt his promise and his Word,

That those, who to his will attend,

His endless blessings shall befriend.'

and

'I spend my days To gain your praise'.

Signed and dated

'Amaria Ann Moore October the 27, 1819.'.

A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants,

birds,

fir trees

and fruit baskets.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A number of small holes.

One stain next to the large potted plant motif.

No stitch losses.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
