Circa 1800 'Map of England & Wales' Sampler

Circa 1800. 20ins by 17ins wide. Circa 1800 England & Wales Map Sampler. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with glass.

Fixed to a wood stretcher frame with paper backing.

The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Floral border.

Colours greens, cream, pale blue, black, pink, gold and light brown.

Entitled

'MAP OF ENGLAND & WALES'.

Depicts a map of England and Wales with counties and surrounding seas, islands and channels.

CONDITION: Good.

A few holes.

A few patchy stains.

Some stitch losses to the border.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
