1831 'Thou shalt not steal' House Sampler by Anne Davies

William IV, dated 1831. 17.25ins 12ins wide. 1831 'Thou shalt not steal' Sampler by Anne Davies. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Floral border.

Colours brown, copper, gold, green and grey.

Inscriptions read

'God is alike both good and wise.

In what He gives and what denies'

and

'Thou shalt not steal'.

Signed and dated 'Anne Davies's Aged 18 Years 1831'.

A good set of motifs, including a house with a fence, birds, acorns, fir trees, potted flowering plants and fruit baskets.

 

CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of small holes.

A few pale stains.

Stitch losses to the border, the signature, motifs.

Colours are slightly faded but still well defined. No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
