
George IV, dated 1821. 13.5ins by 11.75ins wide. 1821 House Sampler by Mary Hassack. Framed in an old maple frame with rippled, old glass.
Glued to linen with card and wood backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, blue, green, dark brown, white, pink, orange, cream and black.
Verse reads
'In these few lines my ardent wish you see
That my dear Parents long may live with me
Their kind advice may always I approve
And happy be in their continual love'.
Signed and dated 'Mary Hassack Her Work January 16 1821'.
A good set of motifs, including a grand house,
dogs,
angels,
stags,
fruit baskets, crowns, birds,
oak tree
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of small holes.
A number of patchy stains.
Some stitch losses to the verse and motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
