
Victorian, dated 1837. 15.75ins by 11.75ins wide. 1837 Adam & Eve Sampler by Lucy Marry.
Framed in an old mahogany veneer frame with gilt slip and glass.
Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with cardboard backing.
The sampler is worked in wool and a cotton-like thread on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, cream, light brown, black, greens and pale blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-12.
Verse reads
'All Glory to Thy wondrous Name father
of mercy God of Love Thus we exalt
The lord The lamb and thus we praise
The heavenly dove'.
Signed and dated
'Lucy Marry 1837'.
A scattering of motifs, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life,

fir trees,

CONDITION: Good.
A couple of holes.
A couple of patchy stains and uniform age darkening of backing canvas.
Some stitch losses to the border,
divider lines,
motifs
and signature.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
