1830 Religious Sampler by Mary Ann Burva

William IV, dated 1830. 21ins by 14ins wide. 1830

Religious Sampler by Mary Ann Burva. Framed in an old wood frame with glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours brown, red, green, pale blue, white, black, pink and orange. Verse entitled 'Ecclesiastes Chap XII Ver 1_7' reads

'Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth

While the evil days come not nor the years draw nigh

when thou shalt say I have no pleasure in them

Then shall the dust return uno the earth as it was and

the spirit shall return unto God that gave it'.

Signed and dated 'Mary Ann Burva Aged 12 Yrs 1830'.

Good set of motifs, including a religious scene (Elijah and the Ravens?), flowers, butterflies and potted flowering plants.

CONDITION: Generally good. A few pale stains.

Minor stitch losses to the religious scene motif.

Some colours quite faded. No colour run. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
