
George IV, dated 1829. 11.25ins by 11.25ins wide. 1829 Religious Sampler by Caroline Ford. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Simple line border.
Colours green, navy blue, gold, browns and cream.
Verse reads
'Eternity! Tremendous sound!.
To guilty souls A dreadful wound
But Oh! If Christ and heaven be mine,
How sweet the accents how divine'.
Inscriptions, which are all around the border, read
'Pray without ceasing'
'Beware of sin'
'Praise ye the Lord'
'Mind your own business'
quench not the spirit'
beware of pride'
Obey your Parents'
'Love the Lord'
'Pray for a new heart'
Put on the whole armour of God'
Knock and it shall be opened'
seek and ye shall find'
'Speak the truth'
Do good at all times'
'Trust in the Lord'
'Fear the Lord'.
Signed and dated 'Caroline Ford Aged 9 Years 1829'.
A good set of motifs, including roses, a fruit basket and trees.
CONDITION: Good. One hole and a slight loss to the ground in the bottom right hand corner.
No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
Minor stitch losses to the holed area and to two of the inscriptions.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
