Majolica Palissy fish on basket tureen & cover

Victorian, circa 1890. 4.5ins high, 8.5ins wide, 4.3ins depth. Portuguese Palissy Majolica tureen with cover which features a lid with overlapping fish and an eel, the dish in the form of a woven basket.



Colouration: green, grey, ochre, are predominant.

Condition

CONDITION: Dish: Good.

Some small flakes to the handles and inner rim.













KILN EFFECTS: small firing hole to interior;



over glazed shrinkage cracks to rim and interior;









a couple of touch marks and a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to exterior.









RESTORATION: retouching to stilt marks to underside and flake to one handle.









Reglued chip to underside of inner rim.



Cover: Good.

Small flake to rim



and eel's tail.



Slight wear around the rim.





KILN EFFECTS: three shrinkage cracks to the fish.







RESTORATION: two filled chips to eel's back.
