Cunha Majolica Palissy snake & lizard wall plate
Victorian, circa 1890. 9.4ins high, 9.4ins wide, 3ins depth. Cunha Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall plate which features a snake, lizards, moths and grubs.
Colouration: green, brown, pale blue, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Cunha pottery.
Condition
CONDITION: Generally good. No restoration.
Chip to foot rim,
small lizard's lower mouth
and moth's body.
Some small chips to shredded clay.
Flaking to shredded clay and to one grub's back.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze;
firing cracks to the underside.
