Mafra Majolica Palissy ewer with cover & stand
Victorian, circa 1890. 13.6ins high, 9.6ins wide, 9.6ins depth.
Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica ewer which features a lizard forming the handle, cover with a snail on top and a stand.
Colouration: green, brown, ochre, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.
Condition
Cover: Good. Some small flakes to ground, rim and inner rim.
RESTORATION. Minor retouched flakes to ground.
Ewer: Generally good. Some flakes to ground.
KILN EFFECTS: over glazed shrinkage line to the foot rim.
RESTORATION. Remodelled missing section lizard's right hind leg.
Retouched flake to foot rim and crocodile's right hind foot.
Stand: Good. Some flakes to ground.
KILN EFFECTS: Glaze pops to the interior.
RESTORATION. Retouched flake to foot rim.
