Majolica Palissy tobacco jar and cover

Victorian, circa 1890. 7.5ins high, 5ins wide, 5ins depth.

French Palissy Majolica tobacco jar and cover which features oak leaves, acorns, moths and shells.



Colouration: brown, green, ochre, are predominant.

Condition

Jar: Good. No restoration.

Some small flakes around the rim and to one shell.









Slight wear to around the rim and to high points of the molding.











KILN EFFECTS: touch marks to the brown ground;



kiln grit caught in the glaze to the ground.





Cover: Good. No restoration.

Small chip to inner flange.



Bruise to the rim.



Small flake to rim, one to inner flange and one to shell finial.







Slight wear to the shell finial and high points of the molding.
