George Jones bird & pond lily garden seat

Victorian, circa 1870. 18.5ins high, 13.8ins wide, 13.8ins depth. George Jones Majolica garden seat which features birds (reed buntings), pond lilies, bulrushes, reeds and dragonflies.







Turquoise ground version. Colouration: turquoise, brown, green, are predominant.







The piece bears maker's marks for the George Jones pottery. English diamond registration mark for the date 09/05/1874.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. Small flake to one bird's foot.



Wear and scratches to the seat.







KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;





firing crack under one bird.





RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack from foot rim running over half the way up.







Stabilised and retouched hairline to handle to the inside only.



Filled chips and retouched flakes to flowers, leaves, brown border and birds.
