Gustafsberg Majolica dragon Jardineire stand

Victorian, circa 1878. 29.7ins high, 18.5ins wide, 18.5ins depth. Gustafsberg Majolica jardinière stand with a mythological theme which features mermaid like creatures supporting a large dragon above their heads.







This model was a Grand Prix winner at the Paris Exhibition of 1878 (see original article illustrated).



Colouration: green, brown, ochre, are predominant.













The piece bears maker's marks for the Gustafsberg pottery.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. Small chips to the border of dragon's plinth.



Slight wear to stand.





KILN EFFECTS: over glazed shrinkage lines to the dragon's tail, neck and claws.









RESTORATION. Two mermaids' arms and dragon's right wing reglued and joins retouched.









Mermaid's arm and half of dragon's left wing remodelled.





Filled chips and flakes to feet, ground, mermaid's chin, black border, middle section corner, leaves and tail.



























Replacement top fitted.
