Mafra Majolica Palissy snake & lizard charger

Victorian, circa 1890. 15.7ins high, 15.7ins wide, 5.5ins depth. Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall charger which features a snake, lizards, toad and a moth.



Colouration: greens and brown are predominant.



The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good.

KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage cracks to the larger lizard's tail,



legs and claws;







a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the lizards and underside.









RESTORATION: Largest lizard's lower jaw,





one of the smaller lizard's heads remodelled.



Other lizard's head reglued and join retouched.



Filled chips to moth's left wing,



foot rim and shredded clay.
