Staffordshire Pearlware Sailor Jug/Pitcher
pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 9.7ins high, 4.9ins wide, 6.3ins depth. Staffordshire jug/pitcher with a maritime theme which features a sailor holding a pipe in one hand and an overflowing mug of ale in the other.
The mug has 'Success to our wooden walls' printed on the side.
The sailor is seated on a crate with 'DOLLARS' impressed to the side, resting on a shaped base. Multi-coloured version.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Condition
CONDITION: Good. Flake to under his left foot.
KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to the mug.
RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses and flakes to his jacket, buttons, trousers, shoes, hat, hair and ground.
Retouched flakes to his jug, hands, nose, lips and chin.
End of pipe remodelled.
