Pair Staffordshire Shakespeare & Milton figures
Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 9.1ins high, 4.3ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures with a theatrical and literary theme which feature Shakespeare and Milton,
stood on a shaped base.
Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment.
Flatback, decorated only to the front.
Vent hole to the underside.

Condition
CONDITION: Shakespeare: Good.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln soot caught in the glaze to the base;
flecks of stray coloured glaze to his jacket and the reverse.
RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses to his trousers,
shoes
and hair.
Milton: Good.
Small flake to his nose.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: small firing pits to the reverse.
RESTORATION: Remodelled left hand and quill.
Retouched paint losses to hair,
shoes
and pillar.
