Rare Pair Staffordshire 'Milk Sold Here' cow spill vases

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 14.2ins high, 13.8ins wide, 3.9ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire spill vases with a pastoral theme which feature cows and a thistle, stood on an oblong base.





The pieces are titled, 'MILK SOLD HERE' to the fronts.





Black and white version. Dull gilt title and embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Generally good. Small flake to chain and left horn.





Some rubbing to gilt.





KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the cow's body and ground;





kiln detritus caught in the glaze inside spill;



touch mark to the reverse.



RESTORATION: Remodelled hind right leg.



Section of front right leg reglued and join retouched.







Tips of left horn and ear reglued and join retouched.



Filled chips and flakes to both ears and horns.





Retouched paint loss to spill vase.



Left facing: Generally good. Small flake to top of left front leg.



Some rubbing to gilt.





KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing to the ground.



RESTORATION. Section of spill and hind left leg remodelled.







Left ear and horn reglued and join retouched.



Retouched flake to base and paint losses to left ear.
